PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of more efficiently leading to a fluorine-containing cyclic ester by monofluorination reaction. SOLUTION: The method for producing a fluorine-containing cyclic ester represented by formula (2) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>5</SP>are each hydrogen, a 1-30C linear or branched alkyl group, a 2-30C linear or branched alkenyl group which has single or a plurality of double bonds, a 2-30C linear or branched alkynyl group which has a single or a plurality of triple bonds, a saturated or partially or completely unsaturated cycloalkyl group, an aryl group, a heterocyclic group, a halogen, an alkoxy group, a CN group or an NO<SB>2</SB>group; Y is oxygen or sulfur; and n is an integer of 0-6) includes reacting a keto alcohol or a keto thiol represented by formula (1) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>5</SP>, Y, and n are the same as defined above) with carbonyl fluoride in the presence of a base.
