The battery has a set of individual cells interconnected in series and/or parallel, and a cooling plate arranged on the cells at pole sides. The cells are arranged in a battery housing with a housing cover such that a free space is formed between a lower side of the cells and a base of the housing. A set of supporting elements (1) extends into the free space and is arranged between and/or below the cells. Lower ends of the supporting elements lie on the base, and upper ends of the supporting elements lie on the cooling plate.
