<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of selectively hydrogenating an unsaturated bond present on the β-γ position alone in a β, γ-unsaturated alcohol, which reaction is extremely important in the pharmaceutical/agrochemical field. <P>SOLUTION: A saturated alcohol is efficiently produced by carrying out the hydrogenation of a β, γ-unsaturated alcohol using an alcohol as a hydrogen source in the presence of a catalyst constituted of supported ruthenium which is formed by dispersing anatase titania in a solution comprising trivalent ruthenium, and subsequently adding a base thereinto to make pH of the solution equal to or higher than 8. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
