<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination device for a display device which has high luminance and long life, and also has superior reproducibility, and the display device. <P>SOLUTION: The illumination device 221 for the display device comprises a substrate 214 and a plurality of white light-emitting devices 200 arranged on the substrate 214, and is used as a backlight of a liquid crystal display panel 211. Each white light-emitting device 200 has a light source and a phosphor excited by the light source to emit light, and uses, as the phosphor, a fluorescence material expressed by formula M(0)<SB>a</SB>M(1)<SB>b</SB>M(2)<SB>x-(vm+n)</SB>M(3)<SB>(vm+n)-y</SB>O<SB>n</SB>N<SB>z-n</SB>, wherein M(0) is one or more kinds of element selected out of Li, Na, Be, Mg, etc., M(1) is one or more kinds of activator selected out of Mn, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, etc., M(2) is one or more kinds of element selected out of Si, Ge, Sn, and Ti, M(3) is one or more kinds of element selected out of Be, B, Al, Ga, etc., O is an oxygen, and N a nitrogen. Further, (x), (y), and (z) satisfy 33≤x≤51, 8≤y≤12, and 36≤z≤56, (a) and (b) satisfy 3≤a+b≤7, and 0.001≤b≤1.2, (m) and (n) satisfy 0.8me≤m≤1.2me and 0≤n≤7 for me=a+b, and (v) satisfies v=äav(0)+bv(1)}/(a+b), where v(0) is the valence number of an M(0) ion and v(1) is the valence number of an M(1) ion. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
