Thin-walled containers are made of high pressure polyethylene of relative density 0,921 to 0,925 and preferably 9,922. In a modification the containers are made of mixtures of high pressure polyethylene and, e.g. 10 to 20%, low pressure polyethylene, the relative density of said mixtures being 0,921 to 0,925 and preferably 0,922. The containers may be used for taking, preserving and giving biological liquids, e.g. blood. ALSO: Thin-walled containers for the taking, preserving, storing and giving of biological liquids, such as blood, are characterized in that the walling of the containers is composed of high pressure polyethylene, or a mixture of high pressure and low pressure polyethylenes, of relative density 0.921 to 0.925, preferably 0.922. The containers may be cylindrical and provided at the ends with suspension lugs and connecting tubes, the ends being strengthened by reinforcing ribs to prevent complete collapse of the container on delivery of the liquid, the collapsed walls forming a flap valve to avoid entry of air. The container may be provided with a drop counting chamber which may be formed in one piece with the container, e.g. by moulding, and may be provided with a cylindrical extension sealed with a sealing membrane and having an exterior screw thread. For delivery of the liquid a delivery tube may be attached to the cylindrical extension of the drop-counting chamber by means of a nipple provided with an interior screw-thread and having on the base a cone made of harder plastic which cone has an opening connecting with the delivery tube, so that on screwing the nipple on to the cylindrical extension of the drop-counting chamber the cone pierces the sealing membrane. Preferably the opening is located in the side of the cone to avoid clogging the passage on piercing the membrane. The containers may be sterilized and thereafter provided with thin, hydrophobic protective covering of paraffin wax or adherent plastic, which coverings may contain small amounts of fungicidal or bactericidal material. |
