Disclosed is a nutrient composition which has an effective prophylactic or ameliorating effect on malnutrition conditions associated with renal diseases, various symptoms such as inflammations, arteriosclerosis, abnormal lipid metabolism and oxidative stress, or diabetic neuropathy, and is useful for patients suffering from renal diseases. The nutrient composition comprises at least one free amino acid selected from a group consisting of valine, leucine, isoleucine and histidine and a lipid comprising an ?-3 fatty acid and an ?-6 fatty acid in such amounts that the weight ratio of the ?-6 fatty acid to the ?-3 fatty acid is 0.5 to 5.5.  The nutrient composition may additionally comprise a soybean protein or a hydrolysate thereof in combination with the lipid or in place of the lipid.
