<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device including a braking means superior in assemblability and durability. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When a down cam surface of a cam 44 is brought into slide contact with a cam follower 45 in an acceleration area a of the cam 44 in a switching means 40 of a fixing device 9, a peripheral surface of a braking area A<SB>1</SB>of a rigid roller 61 in a braking means 60 is brought into press contact with an elastic roller 62 to brake the drive of the cam 44. In a free movement area A<SB>2</SB>of the rigid roller 61, its peripheral surface is not in contact with the elastic roller 62 to allow the rigid roller 62 to freely move.
