<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a synthetic aperture sonar capable of detecting and correcting a phase error precisely, and to provide a method and program for correcting the phase error of the synthetic aperture sonar. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An operation of correcting the phase error of the synthetic aperture sonar in its strip map mode includes: a first step of generating a synthetic aperture image from a reception signal in such a transmission and reception that phase centers are spatially overlapped by using a DPCA (Displaced Phase Center Antenna) and the like; a second step of generating an estimation value of a phase error gradient from a spatial sample corresponding to azimuth data of a high-level range bin in the synthetic aperture image; and a third step of correcting a phase of the spatial sample based on the estimation value of the phase error gradient.
