<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress deterioration in the graininess of a printed image, and improve printing imaging quality when image data having a tone value of each pixel arranged at a checkerboard pattern are printed. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A printer 20 inputs image data having a tone value arranged at the checkerboard pattern and applies halftone processing using a dither mask 62 to perform printing. A whole pixel group includes all pixels that constitute the inputted image data. Then, the whole pixel group is divided into a first pixel group and a second pixel group so that the checkerboard pattern of the same size as one of the inputted image data may be formed. The dither mask 62 is optimized while taking dot dispersion in each of the whole pixel group, the first pixel group, and the second pixel group into consideration. Ž<P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT Ž
