<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method in which coating defects are not generated even if minute foreign matter sticks onto a substrate and a backroll in coating methods in which the coating thickness is decided by clearance between a coating device and a substrate, and to provide a coated-layer shaped article uniformly coated by the coating method. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the coating method for coating the surface of a coating substrate tension-held to an inscribed backroll with a coating liquid by adjusting the clearance between the surface of the coating substrate and the coating device, the back side of the coating substrate is coated under the condition of having a buffer layer of a Young's modulus of 0.03-1.5 GPa. In the coated-layer shaped article coated with the coating liquid, the coating substrate has a buffer layer of a Young's modulus of 0.03-1.5 GPa on the back side. Ž<P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT Ž
