The device has a mains cable (5), machining mouth (11) and a rotatory driven unit (10) e.g. brush roller, arranged in the machining mouth for treatment of a surface (14), where extraction of the surface to be machined takes place by the machining mouth. A sensor (13) assigned to the machining mouth detects an electrical conductor in form of a cable. The electrical conductor lies freely on the surface, and the sensor is formed for effecting suction force and/or drive of the unit in dependence of sensor-moderate detection of the cable.
