PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily form a bumper for an automobile, and to reduce weight, while performing optimization specific to parts of energy absorbing capacity. SOLUTION: This bumper for the automobile has a cross member fixable in a horizontal direction to a side member of a frame of the automobile. In the cross member, a cross section is constituted into a U-shape having a web 4 and two legs. The web 4 of the cross member is directed in an automobile direction. The cross member has an opened front side. The web 4 in the longitudinal direction part 10 at the center includes a reinforcing bead 13 projected in the automobile direction.
