PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure and a method for reinforcing a joint between rails, which strengthen a joint between the rails. SOLUTION: This structure includes joint plates 23A and 23B which mutually connect the first and second rails 21A and 21B arranged in a mutually serial manner, reinforcing joint plates 25A and 25B which are attached to the joint plates 23A and 23B, respectively, and a bolt 27 which passes through one of the first and second rails 21A and 21B, the joint plates 23A and 23B and the reinforcing joint plates 25A and 25B. The bolt 27 includes a first shank 27a, and a second shank 27c thicker than the first shank 27a; the first shank 27a is positioned in the bolt hole 21d of one of the rails 21A and 21B; and the second shank 27c is positioned in the bolt holes 23d of the joint plates 23A and 23B, and the bolt holes 25d of the reinforcing joint plates 25A and 25B.
