897,724. Waste heat steam boilers. VORKAUF, H. Dec. 16, 1960 [Nov. 3, 1960], No. 43418/60. Class 123(2) In an installation for generating steam by means of the heat of blow gases from steel-making converters 2 which each discharge into an associated chimney 1 lined with steam generating tubes, the gases flowing from the chimney into a downpass 4 locating evaporator. Superheater and economiser surfaces 5, the gas cooling surfaces of all the chimneys and downpasses are connected to a common steam and water drum 3, but only the cooling surfaces of the chimney and downpass receiving heat are connected to the water circulatory circuit from the drum. Thus, immediately prior to and during the blow period of a converter, water is supplied to the cooling surfaces of its associated chimney through a pipe 9 leading from a multi-way valve 8, the valve receiving water from a circulatory pump 7 which draws it from the drum 3 through a pipe 6. Branch pipes lead from the pipes 9 to the respective convection-heated surfaces 5. The blow periods of the converters are so timed that the generation of steam is continuous. In a modification, all the chimneys discharge gases into one downpass containing convection-heated surfaces which are supplied continuously with water from the pump.
|
