887,260. Liquid-blast switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. May 13, 1960 [May 15, 1959], No. 16914/60. Class 38 (5). The extinguishing chamber 1 of an oilblast circuit-breaker is immersed in oil and contains an arcing chamber forming a channel 2 for a moving contact 5 engageable with a fixed contact 4, the oil level in the chamber 1 being determined by the position of an opening 10. The arcing chamber has internal and external recesses 6, 7 arranged in adjacent superimposed pairs to form outlet and inlet slots which are controlled by non-return valves 8, 8<SP>1</SP> and connect the channel 2 with compartments 12, 12<SP>1</SP> and 13, 13<SP>1</SP> formed by vertical walls 11 and communicating with each other through the top of the chamber 1. When the contacts 4, 5 open, oil and arc gases are forced through the inlet slots into compartments 12, 12<SP>1</SP> thus compressing gas in the space 14, which gas, at the first current zero, expands to force oil from the compartments 13, 13<SP>1</SP> through the outlet slots into the channel 2 to extinguish the arc, the whole process being repeated if necessary. After arc extinction oil flows through openings 9 to refill the chamber 1. |
