899,357. Valves. BUTLER, G. A. July 7, 1958 [Sept. 26, 1957], No. 21718/58. Class 135. A sealing groove in one of two slidably abutting valve faces is V-shaped with contoured edges facilitating flushing of the sealing fluid when the valve opens. In a gate valve, pressure at 12 or 13, Fig. 1, unseats an upstream gate part 61 or 62 to act above pistons 82, 83 floating on sealing material in cylinders 80, 81 to force the material into grooves 88 sealing the seats 63, 64 to the valve body and also through seat transfer port 90, gate transfer port 94 and seat transfer port 93, Fig. 3, whereby material flows into annular triangular shaped sealing groove 91 to seal gate port 61 around the downstream seat opening 71 when gate transfer port 94 straddles seat ports 90, 93. The seat may be relieved at 110 to enable pressure in port 71 to act on the material. The triangular sectioned groove 91 presents a large sealing area and permits detritus to be flushed out.
|
