<PICT:0800726/III/1> Apparatus for holding down portions of a box blank while passing through the nip 27 formed by an adhesive applying roll 26 and a pressure roll 25 in a box-folding machine, comprises a rigid hold-down element 60 mounted on fixed, rigid support means alongside the nip 27 for movement normal to the path of the blank 23, the element 60 having a straight elongated face normally parallel to said path and extending along it from an end in advance of the nip 27 to an end in rear thereof, and spring means 70 and 71, acting on the front and rear ends respectively of the element 60 to urge the ends towards the path of the blanks, so that the element 60 rocks as it yields upwardly for holding down the folded and unfolded parts of a blank. The element 60 may be located in a recess 44 in a fixed hold-down bar 35, and be adapted for vertical movement on the bar by pin-and-slot connections, upwardly extending webs on the element 60 being guided in slots formed between a block 47, vertically adjustable on pins 45, 46 on the bar 35, and a plate 52 spaced therefrom. The spring means 70 and 71 may be constituted by a single bow spring secured at 74 to the block 47. |
