The controller (102) has a touch sensor (108) comprising a touch-sensitive fabric that is placed on a carrier layer such as central arm rest. The sensor is a flat sensor, and generates signals in response to a force exerted on the fabric, and a control circuit receives the signals generated by the sensor. The control circuit is programmable, determines position of the force exerted on the fabric, and generates a control signal for controlling a vehicle seat (106) depending on the position of the force.
