[Also in Group XXXIII] A tank 1, e.g. of aluminium, for the storage or transport of liquefied gas is provided with an external insulation layer 3, e.g. fibre glass. and is housed within an outer container 4 provided with an internal insulation layer 8, e.g. of cellular plastic material, there being a space between the tank and the container which is filled with an inert gas, e.g. dry nitrogen. As described the container 4 is a bulkhead of a ship and is spaced from the hull 7 of the ship, the space having ballast water circulating therethrough. The insulation layer 3 is held in position by encircling tension bands to counteract the effect of tank shrinkage and both insulation layers are covered with polythene. The tank 1 is circular and rests on an insulation layer 5 covering the bottom 6 of the container 4. |
