907,237. Applying wire coil exserts to externally threaded members. HELI-COIL CORPORATION. May 30, 1961 [Aug. 1, 1960], No. 19427/61. Classes 83 (2), 83 (3) and 83 (4). A helical wire coil exsert is applied to an externally threaded boss member of a diameter slightly larger than the inner diameter of the coil by applying a torque to the trailing end of the coil to expand the coil and screw it on the boss. A sleeve 10 rotated by means 18 rotates, through conical friction clutch means 24, 42, a driving bit 54 having a step 70 thereon to engage the end 72 of a coil exsert 66. The coil 66 is thus expanded and screwed on a threaded boss 74 until either a pilot extension 82 of clutch spindle 40 engages the bottom 81 of a bore 80 in the boss 74, or the spindle end 84 engages the top 88 of the boss, thus to disengage the clutch. |
