PURPOSE: A color gamut expansion method and a display device using the same are provided to perform signal processing to expand the color gamut of an input video signal by independently adjusting the magnitude of chroma enhancement and the magnitude of brightness contrast enhancement of an input video signal based on a subjective evaluation result signal. CONSTITUTION: A signal processing section(2) performs signal processing for expanding a color gamut in a video display to a video signal(Din) and has a color evaluation section(21) and a color control section(22). The color evaluation section outputs a subjective evaluation result using a paired comparison evaluation described later corresponding to a control signal(S1) from a user. Specifically, the color evaluation section outputs an optimum chroma enhancement amount(kC*) and optimum brightness contrast enhancement amount(kL*) as such a subjective evaluation result to the color control section, respectively. The color control section performs signal processing for independently changing the chroma enhancement amount and the brightness contrast enhancement amount of the video signal based on the subjective evaluation result supplied from the color evaluation section. Specifically, the color control section performs signal processing for expanding a color gamut in a video display by converting pixels and so forth into other pixels and the like and outputs the processed signal as a video signal(Dout).
