PURPOSE: A keypad apparatus in a portable terminal and a method thereof are provided to perform multi division of a connection part in a portable terminal keypad, thereby reducing the number of I/O(Input/Output) ports through coding. CONSTITUTION: A number or a character is printed on a keypad. A lower part includes a keypad connection part and a power supply part. When a ground area and the keypad are pressed, a common connection part(30) and a multi-divided connection part(40) are connected. The keypad connection part includes the common connection part and the multi-divided connection part. A controller is connected to the multi-divided connection part and the common connection part.
