PURPOSE: A medium access controlling apparatus and a hibernation mode managing method thereof are provided to operate an entire system at low power consumption by ensuring accurate sleep mode operation in a medium access control device regardless of system state. CONSTITUTION: If a register value is 0, a sleep mode register recognizes a super frame as an active super frame. If a beacon transmission section is completed, a super frame counter counts the super frame every 256us(S506,S507). A super frame controller reads out the information of an MSA section at a start point of an MAS(Medium Access Slot)(S508,S509). If the next MAS is the MAS to be allocated, a PHY is set up in a normal mode(S511,S512). If the next MAS is an empty MAS, the PHY is set up in a sleep mode(S513).
