PURPOSE: A positive active material for a secondary lithium battery is provided to improve discharge capacity, high temperature property, lifetime, and thermal stability of the secondary lithium battery by having a stable crystalline structure without chemical defects. CONSTITUTION: A positive active material for a secondary lithium battery includes lithium composite metal oxides which has no chemical defect and has the content of oxygen atom more than stoichiometry. The specific surface area of the positive active material is less than 5 m^2/g. A method for manufacturing the positive active materials includes a step of pressurizing and heat-processing a raw material of the lithium composite metal oxide at oxygen atmosphere.
