PURPOSE: A linear heat pump is provided to perform cooling with the compression and the expansion of gas without particular refrigerant and to ensure high cooling efficiency a volume. CONSTITUTION: A linear heat pump comprises a cylinder(100), a heat emitting part(300), a heat absorbing part(400), a piston(200), and a linear driving unit(500). The cylinder contains working gas. The heat emitting part is located at the front of the cylinder and emits the heat generated from the working gas to outside when the working gas is compressed. The heat absorbing part is located at the back of the cylinder and absorbs heat from outside to supply cooling effect when the working gas is expanded. The piston comprises an opening and causes the compression and the expansion of the working gas. The working gas directly makes contact with the heat emitting part or the heat absorbing part through the opening. The linear driving unit provides external linear driving power to the piston to enable the piston to cause the compression and the expansion of the working gas.
