APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR SUPPORTING HOT PLUG DETECT IN PORTABLE TERMINAL WITH HIGH DEFINITION MULTIMEDIA INTERFACE

PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for supporting a hot plug sensing function in a portable terminal using the high definition multimedia interface are provided to protect a communication modem from a surge voltage. CONSTITUTION: A portable terminal(200) comprises an HPD(Hot Plug Detector)(205), the first modem(202) and the second modem(204). If the HPD is connected to a video display through an HDMI(High Definition Multimedia Interface), the HDMI generates the HPD signal in the operating voltage of the first modem. The hot plug detector provides the HPD signal to the first modem. If the HPD signal is detected, the first modem activates the second modem. The second modem outputs the video signal to the video display.
