PURPOSE: A propulsion device for a ship is provided to minimize the resistance resulting from a cover and effectively cover the opening of the receiving part. CONSTITUTION: A propulsion device for a ship comprises a receiving part(50), a shaft(40), a driving part(15), a propeller(10), and a cover(31). The receiving part comprises an opening formed into the bottom side of a ship. The shaft with one end connected to the receiving part can be controlled in length. The driving part is connected to the other end of the shaft, protrudes out of the receiving part through the opening, and provides torque. The propeller revolves with the torque from the driving part. The cover comprises a hinge and is connected to the lower part of the driving part. The hinge shaft of the cover is arranged in the longitudinal central part of the driving part. When the driving part is accommodated in the receiving part, the cover moves around the hinge shaft to cover the receiving part.
