PURPOSE: A starting apparatus for a motorcycle and a method thereof are provided to extend the service life of a starting motor and minimize the battery consumption. CONSTITUTION: A starting apparatus for a motorcycle comprises a crank-shaft position sensor, a smart key relay(40), and a smart key receiver(30). The crank-shaft position sensor recognizes parking, stop, and driving. The smart key relay allows or stops the supply of main power from a battery. The smart key receiver is operated when a start switch(4) is turned on to wirelessly confirm ID of a smart key, recognizes the state of a motorcycle from the crank-shaft position sensor, and controls the operation of the smart key relay. The smart key receiver includes a timer setting switch on the input terminal thereof in order to set communication halt time with the smart key and an LF antenna(36) for communication with the smart key.
