<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous filler having high yield of the filler on a wire in a papermaking process and a narrow particle size distribution to increase surface strength and internal bond strength of paper, and to provide a method for producing the filler. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The porous filler contains at least one kind of cationic polymer compound including a cationic monomer expressed by general formula (1) and adsorbed by a filler for papermaking use, and has an average particle diameter of 4.0-40 μm determined by a laser diffraction method (Wherein, R<SB>1</SB>is H or methyl; R<SB>2</SB>, R<SB>3</SB>and R<SB>4</SB>are each 1-3C alkyl or alkoxyl; A is O or NH; B is 2-4C alkylene or alkoxylene; and X<SB>1</SB>is anion).
