PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide thermal transfer recording device that carries out transfer of image recording ink and transfer of a protective layer by the use of separate thermal heads, the device being configured to form the protective layer by suppressing the effect of the temperatures of both the thermal heads. SOLUTION: The thermal head 20 is provided for ink transfer, and the thermal head 30 is provided for protective layer transfer. A control section 40 controls heat generation of the thermal head 30 according to a predetermined relation. In the predetermined relation, an energy level D30 necessary for transfer in order to form the protective layer at predetermined glossiness D40 is associated with the value of the glossiness D40 and the values of head temperatures T20 and T30. The control section 40 assigns the measurement values of the head temperatures T20 and T30 before the transfer of the protective layer and the set value of the glossiness D40 to the predetermined relation, and the corresponding energy level D30 is obtained to control heat generation of the thermal head 30 according to it.
