PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus of displaying a background image of a portable terminal by using position information are provided to stratify a desire of various background displays of a user by using a previously photographed picture or used document. CONSTITUTION: A portable terminal receives position information through a wireless communication module or a GPS(Global Positioning System) module periodically(301), and searches the data identical to the position information(303). The portable terminal searches the existence of the data mapped with the position information through a data comparison unit(305). The portable terminal extracts the corresponding data having position information(307), and displays the extracted data(309).
