<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diesel oxidation catalyst which allows the sulfur adsorbed thereon at high temperature to be released by making good use of a hydrocarbon (HC) trapped thereon at low temperature and to provide an exhaust system provided with the diesel oxidation catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: The diesel oxidation catalyst 40 mounted on an exhaust pipe for exhausting the exhaust gas generated in an engine to the outside includes a first portion having such a hydrocarbon trap coated thereon that the hydrocarbon is adsorbed or released depending on whether or not a preset condition is satisfied, and a second portion having such an oxidation catalyst coated thereon that the hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide in the exhaust gas are oxidized. In the second portion, an oxidation reaction is performed with the HC released from the first portion to release the sulfur adsorbed on the oxidation catalyst by making good use of the oxidation heat generated in the oxidation reaction thereof. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
