PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect a defective nozzle regardless of its position even if a printer uses an inexpensive light source or a long printing head. SOLUTION: A detector (108) optically detects ink ejected from a nozzle and passed through a detecting luminous flux. For each of areas ((1) to (5)) into which a line of nozzles is divided, data obtained based on output from the detector in preliminary measurement, is stored for each data in a memory in advance. To detect a defective nozzle, ink is ejected from the plurality of nozzles, and the output from the detector and the correction data stored in the memory are used. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
