PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an imaging apparatus and an imaging method that eliminate deviation between a set AF area and an actual AF area when performing climbing AF while performing exposure by a rolling shutter. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: a focus optical system 7-2; an imaging means 101 acquiring image data corresponding to a subject image; an AF evaluated value acquiring means acquiring an AF evaluated value from the data corresponding to at least one AF area in the image data when acquiring the image data while moving the focus optical system during exposure by the imaging means; and a focusing position detection means detecting a focusing position by using the AF evaluated value obtained by the AF evaluated value acquiring means while moving the focus optical system 7-2 within a focus driving range, and further includes: a correction means for correcting correspondence relation between the position of the focus optical system 7-2 and the AF evaluated value.
