<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a burden on a file management device and shorten the time required for deleting a plurality of files. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A storage management device intervenes between a file management device and a plurality of storage resources that a storage system has. The storage management device receives a file access request from the file management device, responds to the file access request, and accesses any one of the files stored in any one of the storage resources of the plurality of the storage resources that the storage system has. The storage management device includes a file copy part and a deletion processing part. The file copy part performs file copy processing for copying files between storage resources. As a result of the file copy processing, the deletion processing part performs deletion processing for a deletable storage resource if there is a deletable storage resource which is the storage resource in which only deletable files are stored, in the plurality of the storage resources.
