<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope improving the workability in the assembly by forming the distal end of an insertion part divided by function; and flexibly coping with the change of functions, addition or reduction of the functions by forming the structure of the distal end of an insertion part in a common shape. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The endoscope has a distal-end hard part 32 at the distal end of the insertion part. The distal-end hard part is composed of combinations of a plurality of units 52, 54 and 56 having bases 62, 102 and 112, respectively. Any one of an observation optical system 64, an illumination optical system 66, a forceps exit, or an air/water outlet is disposed in at least one base of the units. Each base has a curved surface constituting part of the outer-diameter surface of the distal-end hard part and a surface parallel to the axial direction of the distal-end hard part. The distal-end hard part forming a circular outer periphery on the whole is composed by making faces parallel to the axial direction of the distal-end hard part in the base abut to each other.
