<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording system capable of multi-layer recording to form a fine optical spot with near-field light, and achieving ultra-high recording density as compared to the conventional method. <P>SOLUTION: The optical recording system includes a plasmon lens made of metal or semiconductor in a first dielectric, having a first minute structure in a periodic array and having a positive refractive index. A recording medium is arranged with its principal plane facing the lens unit in contact therewith or spaced with a minute gap. The recording medium having a negative refractive index in at least a certain specific direction relative to light incident on the principal plane, has lamination of layers made of metal or semiconductor on a dielectric layer. Information is recorded by forming optical spots on either or both of the dielectric layer and the layer made of metal or a semiconductor layer, when the relative position between the lens unit and the recording medium is minutely driven. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
