PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toroidal continuously variable transmission and a method for lubricating the same capable of preventing efficiency reduction by agitating resistance and pump loss of lubricating oil, without causing reduction in a rolling fatigue service life and seizure, by supplying an optimal quantity of lubricating oil to a traction surface based on explicating results obtained by explicating details of a heating state in the traction surface. SOLUTION: A control device 81 of the toroidal continuously variable transmission 1 controls and supplies a supply quantity of lubricating oil supplied to the traction surfaces 2a and 4a of input-output discs 2 and 4 contacting with a power roller 26, based on a heating map of the traction surfaces 2a and 4a made in advance in response to an operation condition of the toroidal continuously variable transmission 1.
