910,640. Valves. ROLL' SCHEN EISENWERKE A.G., GES. DER L. VON. July 7, 1961 [July 18, 1960], No. 24738/61. Class 135. A rotary shut-off valve comprises a rotatable valve member 1 supported at opposite sides by two pivots 9 or 9a journalled in main bearings 5, 6. A packing 4 is located between the valve member and main bearing to minimize leakage and auxiliary bearings 3 are provided between the valve member and main bearings with radial play between the auxiliary bearings and pivots such that with the main bearings operative, no load is taken by the auxiliary bearings. The auxiliary bearings come into use when the main bearings are removed for examination or repair. A second packing may be provided associated with the auxiliary bearings so that the pipe need not be emptied when the main bearings are removed. A collecting chamber 12 and drain 11 may be provided to remove any leakage past the packing 4. In a modification, the main bearings are of tapered form and are provided with lubricating passages. In a further modification the auxiliary bearings are of tapered form and may be axially adjusted by screws from the outside prior to removal of the main bearings.
