<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multilayer coating material with wear, scratch and corrosion resistance for a metal substrate for preparing a medical implant. <P>SOLUTION: A process is provided for depositing, on the metal substrate 1, a first layer having a thickness less than about 3 μm and containing titanium nitride, titanium carbonitride, or both titanium nitride and titanium carbonitride. A body includes: a second layer containing titanium nitride 11a, titanium carbonitride 11b, or both titanium nitride and titanium carbonitride deposited on the first layer, and different from the first layer; and subsequent layers including one or more repetitions of the first layer and the second layer and respectively having a thickness less than about 1 μm. The growth of micro-cracks that may be caused by a scratch on a surface is reduced to provide wear characteristics, scratch resistance and prevention of infiltration of corrosive fluids into a base material. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
