PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device which discriminates an optical disk of a small diameter with an adapter from an optical disk of a large diameter. SOLUTION: A CD player 1 includes: an equipment body 3 in which an adapter 16 is attached to a large diameter CD2a and a large diameter DVD 4a and a small diameter CD2b and a small diameter DVD 4b having smaller diameter that the large diameter CD2a and the large diameter DVD 4a, and is housed any one of the small diameter CD 2b and small diameter DVD 4b with adapter 16 of which the outside diameter are equal to that of the large diameter CD 2a and the large diameter DVD 4a; a LD21 in which is fixed to an equipment body 3, and is provided at position which faces both sides of the adapter 16 of the small diameter CD2b and small diameter DVD 4b with adapter 16 housed in this equipment body 3 and one side of surfaces 2c, 4c of the large diameter CD2a and the large diameter DVD 4a, and irradiates a laser beam toward these; and a PD22 which is arranged with this LD21, and which can receive diffraction light of the laser beam irradiated toward one side of the surfaces 2c, 4c of the large diameter CD2a and the large diameter DVD 4a from the LD21.
