<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more properly restrain a front seat passenger with an airbag even in case the passenger is positioned close to an instrument panel at a frontal collision of a vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: When the airbag 12 is supplied with gas to be inflated and deployed toward the front seat passenger 24 at the frontal collision of the vehicle, the inflating pressure of the airbag 12 acts on lateral airbag doors 16 in the initial period of the inflation and deployment. This causes the lateral airbag doors 16 to deploy precedent to the central airbag door 14, and an initial swell-out hole 26C is formed on each side across the vehicle width. Through this initial swell-out holes 26C, the airbag 12 starts swelling out from inside a module case 26 toward the passenger 24. In this manner, deployment in the region corresponding to the central airbag door 14 is suppressed in the initial period of the inflation and deployment of the airbag 12. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
