摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use power in the optimum conditions while encoding data streams. <P>SOLUTION: An encoder uses a different encoding technique depending on an amount of power available in the corresponding duration. Due to the ability to use such a different encoding technique, power may be utilized in optimum conditions. The optimization is further enhanced by dynamically switching one encoding technique to another according to the amount of power available in the corresponding duration. In an embodiment, each encoding technique estimates motion vectors at the corresponding precision level (thereby consuming a corresponding level of power), and the precision level is chosen to correspond to an available power budget.
