PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for dephosphorizing molten iron with which in a converter type dephosphorizing treatment in the molten iron without using halide material, typically fluorite, this method achieves both the production of the molten iron having low phosphor concentration at high efficiency and the reduction of the stuck amounts of the skull and slag in the converter. SOLUTION: Into the molten iron charged in the converter, oxygen gas is supplied within 12 min. and the molten iron is dephosphorized without using the halide material, typically fluorite. In this operation, the dephosphorization is performed by spraying powdery limes having≤150μm/ton of the molten iron together with oxygen gas onto the molten iron surface through a top-blowing lance providing 4-12 pieces of tapered nozzles excepting a center nozzle.
