Disclosed is a sheet folding device (11) equipped with a first folding mechanism (14) and a second folding mechanism (15), an advance-retreat mechanism (16) with which these are made to approach or separate from one another, and a closing mechanism (17) with which these are forced in the direction of closing. The advance-retreat mechanism (16) moves forward the tips of the pawl parts (47) of the first folding mechanism (14) and the tips of the pawl parts of the second folding mechanism (15) to a position at which said tips overlap. The closing mechanism (17) moves the multiple pawl parts (47) from a first position (P1) to a second position (P2), folding a sheet (13) together with a belt-shaped member into accordion folds.
