A second power-line carrier communication apparatus 1 includes a synchronization detection section 16 including a wide-band synchronization signal detection section 16A and a single-frequency synchronization detection section 16B. The synchronization detection section 16 uses the detected wide-band synchronization signals to execute first synchronization establishment processing when the wide-band synchronization signals are detected, uses the detected wide-band and single-frequency synchronization signals to execute second synchronization establishment processing when the single-frequency synchronization signals are detected and the first synchronization establishment processing fails, and uses the detected single-frequency synchronization signals to execute third synchronization establishment processing when the single-frequency synchronization signals are detected and the first synchronization establishment processing is not executed.
