PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism for determining which data is to be evicted in the first place from an intermediate cache such as an L2 cache. SOLUTION: Data 414 stored in a cache line in a data cache are classified based on a data class reflecting reusability of the data. The data class is stored in a tag store 412, and each tag in the tag store corresponds to a single cache line in the data cache. When reserving a cache line for data related to a command, a tag lookup unit examines the data class in the tag store in order to determine data to be evicted. Data having low reusability are evicted in the higher order of priority than data having high reusability. Advantageously, eviction of data belonging to a data class having lower reusability reduces the number of times of cache errors in a system. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
