PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet carrying device that prevents a sheet from slipping down from a placing part, when an upper unit is rotatingly operated in the opening direction and a tilted carrying passage is opened, while the installation area is reduced. SOLUTION: The sheet carrying device includes: a lower unit 13; an upper unit 12, supported by the lower unit 13 rotatably in the open/close direction, and forming a carrying passage 23, with the lower unit 13 in a closed state, for obliquely carrying a sheet from higher position to lower position; a placing part 2, disposed at the upstream end of the carrying passage 23, and on which a plurality of the sheets to be forwarded to the carrying passage 23 are placed; and restraining means for restraining the movement of the sheet placed on the placing part 2 at a border part between the placing part 2 and the carrying passage 23 or a downstream side position of the border part, by projecting a projecting part 18, capable of projecting into the carrying passage 23, into the carrying passage 23 in conjunction with the rotating action of the upper unit 12 in the opening direction.
