PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact easel by eliminating inconvenience of the conventional portable easel wherein it is bulky to carry. SOLUTION: In this portable easel, frame bodies 1, 2 as easel bodies are disposed to be movable in the shape of X in use and in the shape of Y in storage through a shaft 7. Each one end of the frame bodies is provided with legs 3, 4 supporting the frame body, and each other end thereof is provided with two flat plate-like cradles 8, 9 rotatably mounted for placing a sketch book. In using the easel, two cradles are rotated to be substantially flush with each other, and are integrated in this state by a relay member. In storing, the frame bodies are folded to be stored between two cradles around the shaft 7, and the cradles are superposed on one the other with the frame bodies interposed between them to be made compact and be easily carried.
