<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that carries out elimination of residual developer that remains on the image carrier by using the blade and a brush to which AC voltage is applied, whereby suppressing deterioration in a blade and an image carrier. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An application means for applying the AC voltage to an eliminating member for electrostatically eliminating the residual developer that remains on the image carrier after a developer image is transferred to a transfer body is controlled to have a peak voltage for the AC voltage applied to the eliminating member for electrostatically eliminating the residual developer that remains on the image carrier to be higher according to increase in the unit developer amount that is the developer amount per unit area on the developed image carrier.
